How do I delete watched shows

I'm having a problem (and it seems from the reported bugs I#ve found that it's expected behaviour at the moment in b5) that when I delete old tv episodes or movies that I've watched that Sapphire crashes when I run Import All Data again. As far as I can see it's because there are files missing that it expects to be there and the solution is to remove the metadata.plist file and run the import again. The only problems with this is that it will then longer show which episodes I've watched and it's also a bit of a tedious process to continually delete the metadat.plist file. I would love to keep all shows forever but limited space means I need to keep removing shows fairly soon after watching them. Is there a way to safely remove the files? I've searched but can't find any solution anywhere.
